Ingredients
Wu Wei Zi – schisandra fruit- Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis
Suan Zao Ren – sour jujube date seed – Semen Ziziphus Jujube Spinosa
Huang Lian – coptis rhizome – Rhizome Coptidis
Rou Gui – cinnamon bark – Cortex Cinnamoni
Ye Jiao Teng – fleeceflower/polygonum vine – Caulis polygoni multiflori
Mu Li – oyster shell – Concha ostreae
Long Gu – fossilized bone – Os draconis
Da Huang – rhubarb root and rhizome – Radix et Rhizome Rhei
Yuan Zhi – polygala/Chinese senega root – Radix Polygalae Tenuifloiae
Tian Men Dong asparagus tuber – Tuber Asparagi Cochinchinensis
Gan Cao – licorice root – Radix Glycyrrhiza

Like with all pattern differentiation, you don’t need all of those symptoms to use this. If you have only few of the Heat ones, this formula will help.
It is a very modified version of Tian Wan Bu Xin Dan.
It is great for any pattern that you need to anchor the Shen and Heart in. It also Clears Heart Heat, nourishes some Heart Blood as well as nourishes Yin Deficiency in general.
It also treats really well the pattern of Heat above and Cold Below.
In this pattern the person experiences anxiety, trouble sleeping, and has a red tongue tip, plus some maybe even minor signs of Kidney Yang Deficiency (like cold body or feet, lower sex drive, a general lack of will power, a poor ability to manifest their dreams, desires and wants out into the world). Once you start looking for it, you will see this pattern all the time!
There is often Liver Qi stagnation with this too, but I find that using Chai Hu is too rising and it makes the Heat above worse. I find the trick is to get the Heat in the Heart to go down and warm the Kidney’s, plus help the Kidney water to come up and cool the Heat in the Heart. The frustration and Liver Qi stagnation usually melts away once you treat the root pattern.

Don’t use without at least some Heart Heat (either Deficiency or excess) present.
